ONTARIO

REGION

Modern artificial intelligence (AI) was pioneered in Ontario, beginning more than 30 years ago. It’s where Geoffrey Hinton, the godfather of deep learning, first discovered "neural nets." Since then, Canada became the first country in the world to adopt a national strategy for artificial intelligence, while Ontario’s cities Toronto, Waterloo and Ottawa have attracted global attention and major investments to our AI ecosystem.

With over 300 firms and a network of globally recognized research labs and academic institutions, such as the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, University of Toronto, and University of Waterloo, Ontario has now become one of the leading AI jurisdictions in the world and offers an environment that promotes innovation.

"Building on the strong technology-focussed partnership between Ontario and Baden-Wuerttemberg, Ontario contributes to and benefits from the AI Alliance as we share common strengths in the development of AI technologies and applications in the industry".
